An elderly couple was found dead in their in-home elevator after being trapped in their for four days, police believe.
The couple was from Pennsylvania and had been married for 60 years, but they had vacationed in Georgia for a majority of their lives. At some point last week, the couple was traveling to the third floor of the home when the elevator malfunctioned and they had no means to call for help.
The mail carrier notified police when the newspaper began to pile up. Authorities broke into the home and found no one and then they spotted the elevator.
The couple was inside facing each other in the fetal position. Autopsies have shown that the couple died of heat exhaustion because the elevator probably reached 95 degrees.
