Pedestrian killed in car accident Sunday

On Sunday night in DeKalb County, a pedestrian at the corner of Moreland Avenue and Constitution Road was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street.

The car remained at the scene, according to police.  The identity of the victim has not been released, and authorities expect no charges.

One killed, 4 injured in separate morning wrecks

One man was killed and four more injured in two separate car accidents in Hall County.

According to police, the first accident occurred when a Nissan Maxima was traveling down the roadway and crashed into a Nissan Pathfinder. A 57-year-old man was killed in the accident and the 34-year-old driver and 9-year-old passenger were both injured.

The second accident was a head-on collision that caused four people to be seriously injured. The collision was between a truck and an SUV. The driver of the SUV along with two children were taken to the hospital by medical helicopter in order to be treated. The driver was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

U.S. Air Force member killed in Georgia car crash

A 29-year-old local U.S. Air Force member and his wife were killed in a Georgia car accident last week.

The man had recently returned from a two year tour in Korea after already completing two tours in Iraq.

The man was a Senior Force Protection Officer and some of his decorations included A.F. Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Details on the accident are unknown at this time.

Newlywed woman killed in Atlanta rollover accident

A newlywed woman was killed in a rollover car accident on Interstate 285 over the weekend.

The accident occurred as a tractor trailer attempted to change lanes in front of the woman’s vehicle. The trailer clipped the front of the woman’s car causing it to swerve into a center barrier.

After this collision, the car then lost control and bounced back and forth in the lanes of traffic before being struck again by a semi-truck which caused the car to flip and rollover. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man in the vehicle was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Police car runs into home owned by police chief

A home owned by the police chief of Lavonia was crashed into by a police cruiser after it lost control while driving in Toccoa.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. when police officers were traveling down South Pond Street and lost control of the vehicle when trying to stop on the wet pavement.

His car then spun off of the roadway and struck the front porch of the home causing extensive damage to the porch, home and police cruiser. Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident at this time, but have said the speed was not a factor.

Car accident causes blackout for hundreds

A car accident in Atlanta left hundreds without power, according to Georgia Power.

According to the accident report, the accident occurred sometime in the early morning hours of Saturday when the car lost control and crashed into a power pole and broke it causing it to knock out power for nearly 1,700 people in the area.

Most power was restored back to customers before noon on the same day. Police officials questioned the driver, but he refused any type of medical attention.

Study shows Atlanta drivers are among the most unsafe in the nation

A study done by an insurance provider has found that Atlanta ranks 146th in America’s safest driving cities, with the each driver averaging a wreck every 8.2 years.

Fort Collins, Colorado was ranked the safest driving city in the country with an average driver experiencing a wreck every 14.5 years.

The city that ranked the second as far as safest drivers is only a two hour drive from Atlanta, Chattanooga. Some drivers have admitted to seeing fellow Atlanta drivers doing everything from applying makeup to shaving while driving.

Two-car accident sends one to hospital

An car accident on Poplar Road left one man injured. The accident occurred as motorists made there way to the first day of school.

The accident occurred at an intersection when a woman was attempting to make a left turn onto Poplar Road and failed to yield to a vehicle. She was then struck by the second vehicle on the rear, driver’s side door.

This collision caused both cars to spin before coming to a stop. The woman was transported to Atlanta Medical Center with a laceration on her head. The three people that were in the second vehicle were examined at the scene, but did not need to go to the hospital.

2 Injured in Minivan, Ambulance Collision

Two people are in the hospital following an Atlanta car accident Thursday involving a Coweta County Ambulance.

According to officials with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year-old Renae Sanders and her daughter were traveling in a minivan on Raymond Hill Road Saturday afternoon when she lost control of the vehicle on the rain-slicked road. Officials say the van struck an ambulance and flipped over several times before coming to rest in a ditch.

Sanders and her 14 year-old daughter in the minivan were critically injured in the accident. Sanders was transported to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment following the crash; the teenage passenger was taken o Children’s Health Care at Eagleston Hospital. Both mother and daughter are expected to recover.

The two EMS workers in the ambulance, Dannis Martin and Jeremy Fields, were not injured in the crash and were able to assist the woman and her daughter.

Woman killed in two-car accident

A woman was killed in car accident on Highway 17 in Toccoa, Georgia.

According to authorities, the 81-year-old woman of Toccoa was heading west toward Highway 17. The vehicle failed to yield and was struck by another vehicle that was traveling south on the roadway.

The 81-year-old woman was killed in the accident and another person sustained non-life threatening injuries. The current condition of the person is unknown and the Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident.
