A massive multi-car pileup in Gainesville, Florida claimed the lives of 10 people and injured 18.
The fatal accident occurred on Interstate 75 during the early morning hours on Sunday. Dense fog and smoke from brush fires prompted Florida Highway Patrol to shut down part of the highway late Saturday night. About a quarter hour after reopening the interstate, six tractor-trailers, at least a dozen cars, and a motor home collided with one another.
Witnesses claim that cars burst into flames, some were hit several times, and others were wedged under the bellies of tractor-trailers. Extremely low visibility is believed to be have been a major factor.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of those affected by this accident.
