Pedestrian killed in car accident Sunday

On Sunday night in DeKalb County, a pedestrian at the corner of Moreland Avenue and Constitution Road was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street.

The car remained at the scene, according to police.  The identity of the victim has not been released, and authorities expect no charges.

One killed, 4 injured in separate morning wrecks

One man was killed and four more injured in two separate car accidents in Hall County.

According to police, the first accident occurred when a Nissan Maxima was traveling down the roadway and crashed into a Nissan Pathfinder. A 57-year-old man was killed in the accident and the 34-year-old driver and 9-year-old passenger were both injured.

The second accident was a head-on collision that caused four people to be seriously injured. The collision was between a truck and an SUV. The driver of the SUV along with two children were taken to the hospital by medical helicopter in order to be treated. The driver was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

Three killed in eight car pileup in Georgia

Three people were killed as a result of car accident in Irwinville, Georgia that involved eight vehicles.

According to highway patrol, the accident occurred in a construction zone on Highway 125. An initial investigation shows that seven vehicles were slowing down in the construction zone when a tractor trailer hit one car that struck six more.

It is possible that that truck was traveling too fast and could not stop in time. The truck driver was not injured, but three people were killed and two others sustained injury. No charges have been filed at this time as police officials await the results of the investigation.

Police officer in critical condition after car-pedestrian accident

A veteran officer with the DeKalb County police is currently in critical condition after he was in a serious car-pedestrian accident this past weekend.

The officer had pulled over on Interstate 20 to inspect a car accident when a passing vehicle struck him. Witnesses report that he was wearing reflective gear and had his car lights on at the time of the accident. He suffers from a broken leg, a fractured skull, and swelling near the brain stem.

Bridge collapses after car accident, driver charged

Two people were injured after a car struck a railway bridge in Atlanta and caused a chunk of concrete to fall on a truck and a car below it.

According to authorities, the 13 foot high truck was trying to clear the bridge which stood at 13 and a half feet.  A hydraulic  lift that was attached to the back then hit the bridge. After the impact, a 25-foot section of the bridge then collapsed onto two vehicles.

The driver of one of the vehicles was trapped in the car for nearly an hour as a result. Two people were sent to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

The driver of the first car was charged with transporting an unsecured load, collision of an object adjacent to the street, and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Phil Warden Jr. killed in crash in Atlanta

A relative of Phil Warden Jr. has confirmed that he was killed in car accident in Atlanta.

Authorities have not confirmed the reports at this time because the family was not all notified.

Warden Jr. was the son of Phil Warden Sr., the founder of Capricorn Records, who managed and promoted bands such as The Allman Brothers. Warden Jr. was a lawyer in the Atlanta area and he had four children. Details on the accident have not been released at this time.

U.S. Air Force member killed in Georgia car crash

A 29-year-old local U.S. Air Force member and his wife were killed in a Georgia car accident last week.

The man had recently returned from a two year tour in Korea after already completing two tours in Iraq.

The man was a Senior Force Protection Officer and some of his decorations included A.F. Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Details on the accident are unknown at this time.

Newlywed woman killed in Atlanta rollover accident

A newlywed woman was killed in a rollover car accident on Interstate 285 over the weekend.

The accident occurred as a tractor trailer attempted to change lanes in front of the woman’s vehicle. The trailer clipped the front of the woman’s car causing it to swerve into a center barrier.

After this collision, the car then lost control and bounced back and forth in the lanes of traffic before being struck again by a semi-truck which caused the car to flip and rollover. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man in the vehicle was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Police car runs into home owned by police chief

A home owned by the police chief of Lavonia was crashed into by a police cruiser after it lost control while driving in Toccoa.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. when police officers were traveling down South Pond Street and lost control of the vehicle when trying to stop on the wet pavement.

His car then spun off of the roadway and struck the front porch of the home causing extensive damage to the porch, home and police cruiser. Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident at this time, but have said the speed was not a factor.

Former AG commissioner injured in car accident

The Former Agriculture Commissioner, Tommy Irvin, was injured in a car accident last week.

His daughter told news sources that he is expected to survive the accident although he suffered several broken ribs. He is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Habersham County Hospital. Irvin served as the ag from 1969 until he retired in January 2011.
