Child Falls Through Floor

by Administrator 10. March 2010 07:18

Several Clayton County apartment units were condemned Saturday afternoon after a 3-year-old girl fell through a bathroom floor into the crawl space underneath the building. Residents had been complaining that the apartments had not been kept up very well, including issues involving mice, plumbing, mold and electricity problems. Code enforcement officers inspected the building and condemned 10 units, five of which were vacant.

An apartment resident said the floor had to be incredibly weak for a 3-year-old girl to fall through. The girl's family moved to another unit in the building. The apartment owner had promised to help tenants relocate, police said, but later rescinded his offer.

Girl in Critical Condition After Dog Attack

by Administrator 10. March 2010 06:59

An 8-year-old girl went through vascular and plastic surgery Tuesday evening after being attacked by two dogs in DeKalb County, authorities said. She was severely injured and is in critical condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Police said she was playing outside when she was approached and attacked by two Staffordshire Terriers. A police officer arrived on the scene and used his baton to forcefully remove the dogs. They began to circle the officer, reports say, so the officer pulled a gun and shot one dog. The other ran away and was later caught by animal control officials, who will euthanize the dog. Police located the owner, who will face several charges.

Man Who Hit Child Begged for Help With CPR

by Administrator 3. March 2010 05:09

A man who hit a 10-year-old boy begged onlookers at a nearby bus stop to help give the boy CPR, reports say, but nobody responded. Eventually two people helped, one running to the nearby fire station. The boy was in critical condition Thursday night.

The driver was not charged with an offense, police said, because he drove through a green light, and the boy walked across the street without the protection of a crosswalk. The child was wearing dark clothing, and there were few street lights. He was with his younger brother, who was not injured.

2 Brothers Killed in Fiery Crash

by Administrator 24. February 2010 07:48
Two brothers died when their car crashed near the Hall-Gwinnett County line early Sunday morning. Police say their car veered off the road, crashed and burst into flames. Police don't know what caused the crash. They suspect speed to be a factor, however.

Their parents said both of their sons had just started their own families. The 23-year-old and his wife had a baby three months ago, and the 19-year-old's girlfriend is expecting a child.

1 Killed, 1 in Critical Condition From Crash

by Administrator 24. February 2010 07:31

A two-car collision Monday night killed one driver and left the other in critical condition, police said. There were no passengers. A 37-year-old driver crossed the center line of the road and struck another vehicle head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The other driver was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. She was in critical condition in the intensive care unit as of Tuesday afternoon.

Police say neither driver would have been driving faster than 50 miles per hour. It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved, police say, but the investigation continues.
